Microsoft Word supports printable grid lines to help you enter and locate data on your business documents. For example, you can update a chart’s design with a solid or gradient line with varying degrees of transparency on your printout. Your data table can also display grid lines as cell borders. The Print Preview window displays the horizontal and vertical lines that will help your reviewers navigate your printed data.

Charts
Step 1
Click inside the chart to display the four buttons in a column next to the chart area. Click the “Chart Elements” or “+” button and then click “Gridlines” to tick the check box.
Step 2
Click the Gridlines triangle button to open the options. For example, click “Primary Major Horizontal” to display the horizontal lines. Click “More Options” to open the side pane.

Click or tap the preferred options on the Fill & Line tab, such as “Solid Line.” You can also vary the gridline’s transparency by clicking or tapping and dragging the slider button to the right for a fainter look.
Step 5
Press “Ctrl-P” to open the Print window and preview the chart with the grid lines. You can also click or tap “Print Preview and Print” to view your document.
Step 6
Click or tap to select the printer and the printer settings. For example, enter “1” in the Pages box to test-print just the first page. Click or tap “Print” to activate your printer.

Click or tap and drag inside a table to highlight the area that will display the grid lines.
Step 2
Click the “Home” tab and then click the 'Borders' arrow button in the Paragraph group to open the drop-down list. Click “All Borders” to display the grid lines. Save this document.

Press “Ctrl-P” to open the Print window. Click or tap to select your preferred printer and settings. Click or tap “Print.”

- You can also access the ribbon commands to add chart grid lines. Click inside the chart to display the Chart Tools ribbon with two tabs: Design and Format. You will see two Design tabs, one for the ribbon and one for the Chart Tools ribbon. Click the Chart Tools “Design” tab and select “Add Chart Element” in the Chart Layouts group. Mouse over “Gridlines” and select “More Gridline Options” to open the list in the side pane.
